September 13, 2006—Dow Chemical Company announces that customers will be getting more calcium chloride per pound of product purchased with new DOWFLAKE Xtra 83-87% calcium chloride flake.
This new product, explains Dow, will replace DOWFLAKE 77-80% calcium chloride flake. It is used in a variety of applications, including ice melt, dust control, as an accelerant for setting concrete, and water treatment.
DOWFLAKE Xtra 83-87% contains 8-10% more calcium chloride than the traditional 77% calcium chloride flake product. Because it is more concentrated, according to Dow, DOWFLAKE Xtra 83-87% delivers more performance pound-for-pound than traditional 77% calcium chloride flake. The higher concentration will reduce handling, storage, transportation, and bag disposal costs, all of which have increased significantly over the last several years.
Applications for DOWFLAKE Xtra 83-87% include dust control of unpaved roads and parking lots, and as a roadway deicer. Industrial applications include concrete acceleration, tire weighting, brine refrigeration systems, and a calcium source for chemical processing. Full production of DOWFLAKE Xtra 83-87% will begin in January 2007.
