January 12, 2005—Dranetz-BMI announces that its PowerXplorer and PowerGuide power monitoring instrument line was judged fully compliant with all requirements under IEC-61000-4-30 Class A by Technology International (Europe) Limited (I2T), an independent testing facility and industry-recognized “competent body.” Dranetz-BMI is one of a few power-monitoring companies to have achieved compliance with this new IEC standard.
The IEC 61000-4-30, Testing and Measurement Techniques-Power Quality Measurement Standards, defines the method of measurement and interpretation of results for power quality parameters in 50/60 Hz systems. Class A accuracy means that the instruments can be used for contractual applications, verifying compliance with standards, and resolving disputes. It is a performance specification, not a design specification, providing measurement methods without thresholds.
Power Quality parameters in this standard include power frequency, supply voltage unbalance, magnitude of supply voltage, voltage and current harmonics, flicker, interharmonics, supply voltage dips and swells, rapid voltage changes, voltage interruptions, mains signaling, and transient voltages.
In addition to achieving the aforementioned compliance, Dranetz-BMI received a Certificate of Assessment with ISO17025, defining the general international requirements for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories and with TI(E) Assessment Guide LAC0101, which also includes provisions according to EN45001. ISO 17025 is the equivalent of ISO 9000 for calibration and testing laboratories. It applies to any organization that wants to assure its customers of precision, accuracy, and repeatability of results.
