October 27, 2004—DTE Energy Technologies, along with Chevron- Texaco of San Francisco, Calif., recently installed a 415-kilowatt (kW) and a 620-kW energy|now on-site energy system at the San Mateo County Community College District in San Mateo, Calif.
The ENI 415 internal combustion system was installed at Skyline College and the ENI 620 was installed at the College of San Mateo. The District was growing increasingly frustrated by its high energy bills and looked to DTE Energy Technologies and Chevron-Texaco to provide it with a cost-saving energy solution.
The units are Combined Heat & Power- (CHP) capable, which means the colleges are able to generate their own electricity less expensively than their local utility, and the waste heat from the engines is used to provide heat to each college’s central heating plant, further reducing energy costs and saving wear and tear on the boilers. Both units are remotely monitored, via the Internet, by DTE Energy Technologies’ proprietary energy|now System Operations Center (SOC)(TM). The SOC is able to monitor various data points and provide preventative maintenance on the unit.
