October 25, 2002—DuPont Antron nylon has received the Environmentally Preferable Product certification after an independent third party evaluated its total environmental impact. Environmentally Preferable Products (EPP) are defined as “products and services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared to other products and services that serve the same purpose.” DuPont Antron nylon is the first and only carpet fiber to achieve EPP certification by an independent third party, according to DuPont.
DuPont Antron was evaluated by the following criteria: Product performance. Total environmental impact of product manufacturing. Use of “green energy” in the manufacturing. Protection of safety, health, and the environment. End-of-life responsibility.
DuPont was ranked among the top two most sustainable companies, according to a survey conducted by International Facility Management Association (IFMA). The survey was conducted for DuPont Antron to ascertain “green” trends in facility management and facility manager perceptions of sustainability. Results indicated that 69 percent of facility managers are implementing green building concepts and 58 percent use or plan to add environmental criteria to vendor and product selection.
News on DuPont’s EPP certification and results of the sustainability survey were announced at the October IFMA World Workplace Conference in Toronto.
