Dynasound outlines HIPAA oral privacy requirements for healthcare facilities

December 16, 2002—Dynasound has recently outlined the oral privacy requirements for The HIPAA—Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The intent of Oral Privacy Requirement is to protect patients’ medical information from being overheard by intentional or unintentional eavesdropping. Among problem areas in healthcare facilities are doctor offices, examination rooms, and treatment rooms. Open areas range from admissions and nurses stations to pharmacy and counseling areas.

Dynasound notes that the final HIPAA rule occurred on August 14, 2002 and that most providers must be in compliance by April 14, 2003. Enforcement of the HIPAA regulations will come under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which will determine if an organization is compliant with the new legislation. HHS will also issue penalties for non-compliance with the oral privacy requirements.

Dynasound provides sound masking solutions that range from portable privacy provider; plenum mount; ceiling downward mount channels, and ceiling upward mount channels.
