Eco Building Products’ treated lumber chosen for apartment complex

March 8, 2013—Eco Building Products Inc. recently announced that its Eco Red Shield coated lumber products will be used in the construction of a 77-unit apartment complex in Marina Del Rey, California, to help the facility be both green and sturdy.

TriCal Construction, the developer of the project, chose Eco Red Shield protected lumber products based upon the merits of the lumber’s protection against mold, wood-rot, termites and fire, says Eco Building Products. Protected by the company’s proprietary, eco-friendly chemistry utilizing ECOB WoodSurfaceFilm and FRC technology (Fire Retardant Coating), Eco Red Shield products are designed to provide superior wood protection, preservation, and fire safety to building components constructed of wood, from joists, beams and paneling to floors and ceilings.

The Eco Red Shield lumber is also said to be eco-friendly and safe to use. Recently awarded GREENGUARD certification for indoor air quality, it contains no formaldehyde or hazardous chemicals and also emits no odors, the company adds.

The company advocates building/rebuilding “defensively” because it is more cost-effective to “do it the right way the first time,” said Steve Conboy, president/CEO, Eco Building Products. Conboy added, “The Company is now in the hunt for more “supply only” contracts from companies similar to TriCal that see the benefit of investing a little more now, [rather] than a lot later. Replacing termite-eaten lumber or lumber riddled with mold-related problems has proven to be costly to builders. Eco’s Defensive Building Practice campaign is out to educate builders and construction defect attorneys on how to defend against things like termites and wood fiber strength in lateral loads; fire ignition on engineered wood products and OSB; and now the more common mold outbreaks we’re beginning to see in the wake of super storms.”
