January 13, 2003—ECS Group has introduced a new Application Service Provider (ASP) model for Computer Assisted Facility Management (CAFM) applications.
ECS can now host and maintain drawings and CAFM database on a server. Users buy a license for a CAFM package, and save the expense of having to hire and train CAFM database professionals and also allows access to “on-demand” AutoCAD services. This eliminates exposure to a single in-house knowledge-worker.
According to ECS, their ASP solution offers lower overall CAFM costs, redundancy benefits and vendor warranted uptime and system availability.
The ECS ASP model offers the service for a monthly fee that includes hosting and eight (8) hours of either AutoCAD or CAFM professional. Any work that is required after the initial eight hours is based upon discounts from normal professional services rates.
There are options for connectivity between the ASP and the client which include IT Node connectivity, FTP connectivity, manual connectivity (email, courier delivery of discs, CD-Rs, marked-up hard copy, etc.) that can address any issues of security or integrity that IT may have regarding the interaction of business systems.
Additional services offered by ECS include:
- Updating master floor plans to “as-existing” conditions.
- Transition all of the client’s drawings into a digital, fully indexed database.
- Develop a client CAD standards document and disk.
- Set procedures for releasing drawings to consultants.
- Set procedures for accepting & indexing new drawings.
- Set procedures for updating master plans.
- Set procedures for ongoing database backup.
