EDR’s first lighting efficiency training course available online

November 26, 2001—Energy Design Resources (EDR) is offering its first lighting efficiency training class as a distance learning course over the Internet. The class is designed for engineers, architects, and building operators. It provides professional level education on high performance lighting for the workplace, especially offices, retail, and industrial buildings. Students will learn about lighting issues, technologies, and applications, with special consideration given to California energy codes and efficiency programs.

The lessons use animated illustrations and color images in MS PowerPoint presentations. Internet resources are used as texts. The Advanced Lighting Guidelines: 2001 Edition is the official reference text for this course and is available online as a .pdf download. The goal of the Guidelines is to provide a comprehensive, regularly updated document that will remain useful to lighting decision-makers and that will encourage appropriate practice for lighting design in buildings.

Course materials consist of 24 self-paced lessons, which can be reviewed anywhere the participant has access to the Internet, and six self-administered tests, approximately one hour each. EDR Lights has been approved by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) to provide 6 credits for Lighting Certified (LC) re-certification. Students can self-report their course performance to receive their Lighting Education Unit (LEU) credits. For more information, to view a sample lesson, or to register for the first round of classes, visit EDR. For more information on LC re-certification procedures, contact NCQLP.
