Electricity Competition Postponed in Nevada

Competition in electricity markets in Nevada was scheduled to begin March 1, but it has been shelved indefinitely. For the present, Nevada’s Governor Kenny Guinn (R) plans to gather stakeholders to work out the technical and legal obstacles to the program. Some of the issues under discussion are access by outside providers to transmission lines, establishing and funding an independent system operator, and distribution rates. The state public utility commission has further delayed progress by failing to act on such important issues as billing procedures and stranded cost recovery.
