“Elumens Corp., IBM to Provide New Solution for 3-D Design and Visualization”

Elumens Corporation, a leader in hemispherical display solutions, announced on July 20, 2000 that IBM Corporation will be the first leading solution provider to offer the VisionStation as part of a 3-D design and visualization system. The system will be based on IBM’s award winning IntelliStation workstation.

The VisionStation envelops users with a dramatic, 180-degree field of view, resulting in an integration of the operator and the displayed information. The feeling of realism created by the VisionStation is designed to be ideal for spatial and product design projects: for example, aircraft or marine passenger cabins, automobile interior layouts, assembly line simulation and office space design, as well as engineering applications related to ergonomic design. Elumens has certified the award winning IBM IntelliStation as the preferred workstation to drive this display system.

The new Elumens-IBM solution enables teams to collaborate on 3-D, computer-aided design (CAD) or animation projects from multiple sites, regardless of their location, via the company network or the Internet. By sharing rendered designs in a realistic environment, for instance, architects and contractors can collaborate on the design and construction techniques prior to creating blueprints, leading to fewer costly mistakes, faster client approvals, and time and money saved.

In the first phase of the working relationship, IBM will authorize its North American sales force to offer the VisionStation as an engineering and digital media solution. Joint marketing and distribution strategies will also be developed to support the sales effort.

Elumens is also working with IBM on product development initiatives including advanced Intel Itanium IA-64 based workstations. Elumens is in the process of developing and testing solutions on the next generation of IA-64 based IntelliStation workstations and is part of the IBM Itanium Software Advocate Forum.
