Encelium’s new BACnet integrates lighting control with other automation systems

July 12, 2006—Encelium Technologies, Inc., introduces the ECS BACnet Interface Module for seamlessly integrating the company’s popular ECS lighting control system with any BACnet-compatible building automation system, including HVAC, security, fire and others, the company says.

The host system is the ECS (Energy Control System), a fully scalable, integrated addressable lighting control system that provides up to 70% lighting-related energy savings in offices, healthcare facilities, schools, warehouses, factories, and other commercial/industrial buildings. Unlike other lighting control systems that provide relay or circuit-level connections, ECS provides addressable fixture-level switching or dimming and sensor connectivity to allow an unprecedented degree of management and control. The ECS BACnet Interface Module allows the building lighting system to operate autonomously, while sharing operational parameters with any BACnet-compatible client via BACnet/IP.

At the enterprise level, the integrated building automation system is easily managed and controlled in real time over the Internet via popular open-architecture front-end software systems like Tridium’s Niagara Framework.

The ECS BACnet Interface Module allows the following information to be shared among all appropriate BACnet clients on the network:

  • Light zone state—on or off
  • Light zone dimming value—0-100 percent of lighting output
  • Fire alarm state—on or off
  • Occupancy state—zone occupied or not
  • Sheddable load—total lighting load available for reduction, measured in Watts
  • Shed status—real-time load reduction in Watts
  • Shed request—requested amount of load reduction in Watts or percent of load

Encelium specializes in developing and marketing leading-edge energy management systems that control lighting and other loads to dramatically reduce commercial building energy costs. For more information, visit the Web site.
