May 30, 2003—For FMs in New York State, new energy-efficiency projects relying on state rebates will be put on hold since all funding, anticipated to last through June 30th, has been exhausted.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced recently that all rebate funding for the Commercial and Industrial Performance Program is closed and all applications will be wait-listed until July 1st.
According to Herb Unger, vice president of The First Energy Group, an energy conservation and management company based in New Jersey, “The overall funding for the next program year is cut to one-third of last years’ budget. There may be additional funding coming, but we just don’t know at this time.”
Only $10 million is allocated for rebates at present, down from the $30 million exhausted before the 2003 cutoff.
