April 4, 2003—A group of the nation’s recognized leaders in advanced technology have formed the PJM Interconnection Advanced Technology Advisory Council (ATAC) to further ensure the continued reliability and productivity of North America’s largest electric power grid.
This group of technology experts will provide objective evaluations, appraisals and recommendations to PJM. Specifically, the Council will advise PJM on the appropriate and economic use of advanced technology that emulates human thought by taking into account prior experiences and applying them in specific situations.
“The Council will help PJM ensure that its entire technology portfolio is strategically focused and economic in execution,” said Phillip G. Harris, PJM president and chief executive officer.
“To further advance the value of competitive wholesale electricity markets and achieve productivity gains of our services, we must continue to seek and implement advanced technology solutions.”
“Advanced technologies should be a primary focus of any entity with a sophisticated and complex business environment like PJM,” said Sayles. “I’m pleased that PJM recognizes this and is taking measures to continually improve system performance and ensure continued reliability.”
A similarly functioning group, the Security Advisory Council (SAC), will provide independent recommendations regarding PJM’s physical and cyber security operations.
PJM, the country’s first fully functioning regional transmission organization, operates the world’s largest competitive wholesale electricity market and North America’s largest power grid. The company currently coordinates a pooled generating capacity of more than 74,000 megawatts and operates a wholesale electricity market with more than 200 market buyers, sellers and traders of electricity.
