August 4, 2004—Energy Resources Management, which helps Asian companies with big energy bills outsource their energy management function is practicing what it preaches by doing some outsourcing of its own. Energy Resources Management (ERM) is assigning its energy consumption monitoring service to an Australian company, BCM, which specializes in that facet of the energy management discipline.
“[BCM has] a team of highly experienced energy engineers scrutinizing the consumption data of many hundreds of energy meters all across Australia,” explained Robert Allender, managing director of ERM. “Our trials with them have shown them to be expert in analyzing detailed meter data, spotting anomalies and trends, and determining the likely cause. And they monitor every client’s data 365 days a year, so problems can be addressed quickly, while actions or situations that reduce energy costs can be pinpointed equally fast. The net result is savings that are locked in.”
According to BCM, remote energy consumption monitoring is practiced widely in Australia. US and European energy users have long taken advantage of the focused expertise of monitoring companies like BCM to effect lower consumption costs, lower demand charges, rapid reporting of key indicators, the ability to allocate costs to separate business units or to tenants, and a means to verify electricity bills.
“What we provide,” said BCM managing partner Peter Dickinson, “is not a piece of software. Nor is it a Web site that presents data in a pretty format. Rather, it’s a team of experts working hard on a client’s behalf. Our clients love being sent straight to the answer instead of just being left to figure out for themselves if there is even a problem.”
BCM’s service, called LiveDATA, can monitor any meter, from any site, anywhere in the world. LiveDATA users in other parts of the world include New Zealand’s Auckland Zoo, winner of that country’s Public Sector Energy Wise Award, 2004.
