April 4, 2005—Energy Systems Group, LLC has been chosen by Emory & Henry College (EHC) in Emory, Va., to implement $5 million in campus-wide building improvements that will enhance energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve the working, learning and living environment for staff and students, according to the company. The cost of these improvements is fully funded from energy and operational savings and requires no capital investment from the Emory & Henry College budgets, the company says.
ESG developed a long-term plan and implementation program design to retrofit existing heating and cooling equipment, improve lighting in all buildings and provide water conservation throughout the campus. ESG will also install new air conditioning in three large dorms and replace windows in one of the largest dorms. The cafeteria and kitchen facilities will receive major improvements to further increase energy efficiency and enhance operations. Additionally, ESG is installing a new central steam plant and is upgrading the campus steam distribution system to increase the reliability and availability of coal based steam heating while reducing the overall costs by leveraging new equipment and centralization.
ESG is installing campus wide automation systems to help the staff better control energy use and equipment operation, and will provide ongoing training and support to the campus maintenance staff to help maximize the function of the new equipment and retrofits.
All work is designed to minimize impact on students and staff while the implementation is in process. To learn more about Energy Systems Group, visit the Web site.
