Energy Systems Group hired by Baltimore public schools

August 7, 2006—Over the next fifteen years, the Baltimore City Public School System is predicted to save $45 million in energy expenditure. The school system has hired Energy Systems Group to perform a number of installations, upgrades, and improvements at thirty-two sites in the district, including: new digital control system upgrades to effectively manage heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; new energy-efficient lighting systems to reduce costs and improve visibility for students and staff; and water conservation improvements to reduce water use and costs while helping the schools become community leaders in energy and environmental stewardship.

Six schools will have new boiler systems installed and three others will receive complete HVAC system upgrades, says Energy Systems.

J. Keith Scroggins, interim COO of the Baltimore City Public School System, said Baltimore is among the first large city school systems to “implement energy performance in every school.”

The $20 million project is scheduled to be completed within eighteen months and will create comfortable working and learning environments while minimizing any impact to students’ learning and school operations during this period.
