Engineered Support to upgrade HVAC, power and fire suppression at military units

October 14, 2005—Engineered Support Systems, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary ofUniversal Power Systems, Inc. (UPSI), was awarded a $2.96 million contract to upgrade heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) as well as power and fire suppression systems for Joint Reserve Intelligence Units at 20 different Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps sites in the continental US, the company says.

The project supports Defense Intelligence Agency efforts to upgrade secure IT networks and infrastructure for Joint Reserve Intelligence Centers (JRICs) in support of the ongoing Global War on Terror. The initiative, established in 1995, provides automated systems, communications infrastructure and technical support to more than 20 JRICs located throughout the US. Using electronic connectivity provided by the secure communications systems, the Joint Intelligence Centers, Combat Support Agencies, and Service National Intelligence Centers can task and manage the production activities of Reservists located at these sites.

UPSI will install uninterruptible power supplies where required, adding backup generator sets with automatic transfer capability to provide 24/7 emergency power, and will install additional lighting circuits and outlets. The company will also update existing commercial HVAC equipment or provide additional commercial equipment to supplement the existing cooling system. FM200 fire suppression systems will be installed as well, to replace existing water sprinkler or Halon systems.
