March 20, 2002—The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy have named Whirlpool Corporation as an Energy Star Partner of the Year for its commitment to making and selling energy-efficient products that save consumers money on energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is the fourth consecutive year that Whirlpool has won the award.
Whirlpool is being honored for its leadership in manufacturing and promoting products that carry the Energy Star label. This year Whirlpool introduced its Energy Star-qualified Duet front-loading washer, which uses 68% less water and 67% less electricity than conventional washers. Whirlpool has also expanded its line of refrigerators, dishwashers, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers that are Energy Star-qualified.
The ENERGY STAR Award is given to a variety of organizations to recognize their efforts to manufacture or sell products that provide significant cost savings to consumers and help protect the environment. This year, the Energy Star program is celebrating a decade of environmental protection through voluntary participation by leading U.S. businesses and organizations.
