December 13, 2004—With the aim of better controlling lead levels in drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing guidance for the states that clarifies how the collection and management of lead and copper samples is conducted.
Earlier this year, the EPA discovered lead levels in certain cities across the country that prompted a review of how the lead and copper rule was being implemented.
EPA will continue its review to help determine whether additional guidance or training is needed and whether parts of the regulation need to be changed. Information on the Lead and Copper Rule is available on EPA’s Web site.
