EPA grants $6.3 million to boost property revitalization

June 18, 2008—Sixteen state or local governments are receiving supplemental grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help return problem properties to productive use. More than $6.3 million is being awarded to brownfields cleanup revolving loan funds grantees. Brownfields are sites where expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant, explains EPA.

The following state and local governments were selected to receive the brownfields supplemental money: City of Emeryville, VA ($500,000); City of Aurora, CO ($350,000); City of Bridgeport, CT ($500,000); County of Hillsborough, FL ($300,000); Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, FL ($350,000); City of Rockford, IL ($500,000); City of South Bend, IN ($400,000); City of Bath, ME ($400,000); City of Brewer, ME ($300,000); City of Monroe, MI ($250,000); Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, MN ($400,000); St. Louis Development Corporation, MO ($500,000); City of Missoula, MT ($400,000); New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, NH ($500,000); County of Bucks, PA ($200,000); and City of Milwaukee, WI ($500,000).
