May 5, 2004—The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized 29 individuals and organizations from around the world for outstanding efforts in protecting the Earth’s climate and stratospheric ozone layer. The award recipients have demonstrated ingenuity, leadership, and public purpose by achieving reductions of ozone depleting and heat-trapping gas emissions. This year, there are 17 winners of the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award (begun in 1990) and 12 winners of the Climate Protection Award (begun in 1998) from ten countries.
