EPA honors schools for excellent IAQ

January 18, 2006—The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced EPA’s annual IAQ Tools for Schools Excellence Awards at the agency’s sixth annual Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Symposium [KATRINE: LIVE LINK TO http://www.epa.gov/iaq/schools/ ]. The awards honor schools and school districts that have exemplary IAQ programs, ranging from designing a new school building free of toxins and other hazards to developing district-wide policies for continuous training and maintenance.

The 2005 winners include:

  • Cecil County Public Schools, Cecil County, Maryland
  • Hartford Public Schools, Hartford, Connecticut
  • Katy Independent School District, Katy, Texas
  • The School Board of Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Vashon Island School District, Vashon Island, Washington
  • Wichita Public Schools, Wichita, Kansas

The Model of Sustained Excellence Award winner is:

  • Blue Valley School District #229, Overland Park, Kansas

2005 Special Achievement Award winners include:

  • Young Parent Program (A Hydroville Project), Springfield School District, Springfield, Oregon
  • Science Research Club, Beaverton School District, Beaverton, Oregon

2005 Radon in Schools Excellence Award Winner:

  • The Town of Andover, Massachusetts
