April 8, 2002—The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named GE Lighting as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its commitment to making and selling energy-efficient products that save consumers money on energy bills. GE Lighting was recognized at a special 10th Anniversary awards ceremony in Washington, DC on March 26, 2002.
GE Lighting has been honored for its leadership in manufacturing and promoting products that carry the ENERGY STAR label. In 2001, the company kicked off its “GE and You…Saving America Energy Campaign” to promote energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, as well as the new GE Lighting Auditor (GELA), an online tool that quickly and simply measures three elements of lighting in a home, school or business: the dollars currently being spent on energy; the total dollars that could be saved by using energy-efficient products; and which energy-efficient, replacement light bulbs should be used.
The ENERGY STAR Award is given to a variety of organizations to recognize their efforts to manufacture or sell products that provide significant cost savings to consumers. This year, the ENERGY STAR program is celebrating a decade of environmental protection through voluntary participation by leading US businesses and organizations. In 2000, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR and its partners, saved enough energy to power ten million homes and reduce air pollution equivalent to that from ten million cars.
