May 14, 2004—Recipients of the 2003 President’s Environmental Youth Awards (PEYA) were recently honored for innovative environmental projects including: starting a recycling and environmental education campaign that led to the first “green” playground in the area made from recycled materials; conducting a science project that demonstrates the benefits of crushing used oil filters and recycling the oil, and sharing the results with their community; and creating a new pedestrian and bike trail.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 10 regional offices selected the PEYA winners for projects that promote awareness and encourage people of all ages to protect their environment through community involvement.
