June 16, 2003—ergoCentric says its patented On Board Electronic User Guide technology solves a significant problem with ergonomic chairs, which is that many people do not use the adjustments on their chairs simply because they do not know how or are afraid to try a lever.
The first version, the Voice Instruction System, is commonly referred to as “The Talking Chair”. The user simply pushes the switch on one of the paddles and listens to the voice instruction from a speaker in the backrest explain what that paddle does and how to use it. The On-Board Electronic User Guide is available on any ergoCentric chair and can be ordered in any language.
The second version, now in development, is a Visual Instruction System. Rather than voice, it uses an LCD screen attached to the armrest of the chair to convey full adjustment instructions.
According to ergoCentric, the On-Board Electronic User Guide is an excellent training tool that will help end users learn how to adjust their chair. Health and Safety officers in a company can also use the talking chair to help make the process of learning the adjustments easy and fun. The talking chair also helps decision-makers assess the benefits of a certain chair. The LCD version makes it practical to have the electronic user guide technology on every chair.
