January 2, 2002—Out-law.com recently reported that the European Union (EU) remains behind the US in terms of wealth and productivity per capita, with the gap increasing. The Competitiveness Report 2001 published by the European Commission attributes this to less innovation on the part of EU member states, and a slower introduction of information and communication technologies.
