European Commission approves data exports to Canada

February 13, 2002—The European Commission has decided that Canada’s data protection laws offer sufficient protection to allow EU businesses to transfer personal data without additional guarantees, according to a report in Out-law.com. This is good news for EU businesses with offices in Canada, since it eases restrictions on sharing customer databases and other data.

Switzerland and Hungary were the only other non-EU countries previously approved. The complete Commission decision is available as a 4-page PDF file.
