European Union drops directive that would limit noise levels at work

February 27, 2002—Amendments to an EU Directive that would limit noise levels at work have been dropped, according to a recent report in Workplacelaw Network.

Campaigners, led by the Construction Products Association, objected to the changes in the EU Physical Agents Directive that would limit average daily noise levels to 87 decibels—equivalent to motorway traffic.

Exposure to noise is the second most common cause of compensation claims in the construction industry after asbestos.
