April 6, 2005—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recognized several workplaces in the last month for excellence in workplace safety and health management.
The Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Capital Development Program won OSHA’s Regional Administrator’s Outstanding Contribution Award.
Winners at the “Star” level of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program for excellence in workplace safety and health management were: The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME; Monsanto’s Research Facility in Waterman, IL; PPL Electric Utilities-East Region in Scranton, PA; Delta Airlines-MCI Airport Customer Service in Kansas City; Vulcan Chemicals in Wichita, KS; AK Steel Corporation Butler Works of Butler, PA; and Welco Lumber Co. Naples Division in Naples, ID.
OSHA’s VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. Participating companies achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. For more information on this nationwide program, visit VPP at the OSHA Web site.
