June 30, 2004—FailSafe Air Safety Systems has announced the official expansion of its patented technology and product line that captures, contains, and neutralizes airborne biohazards. Through its partnership with Design Shelter, FailSafe offers a Portable Isolation Containment System (PIC System) that combines patented medical isolation and air handling technology with a high quality flexible shelter to meet the emergency surge capacity and isolation requirements of government agencies and healthcare institutions.
Earlier this month, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Center for Emergency Preparedness selected the FailSafe PIC System as part of its program in order to enable DPH to rapidly deploy portable isolation units to healthcare facilities across the Commonwealth. The system was selected over products from five competing vendors.
The PIC System, which was recently on display at the 14th World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto, Ontario, consists of an all weather shelter plus an integrated filtration, heating, and AC unit (PICS HVAC) that allows for the isolation and care of multiple patients in a negative-pressure environment with HEPA-filtered exhaust and controlled environmental air. The FailSafe PIC System conforms to CDC precautionary guidelines for isolation and AIA recommendations for Airborne Infectious Isolation (AII).
