November 14, 2001—A new directive was proposed by the European Commission in May of this year regarding the energy performance of new and existing buildings, and is now passing rapidly through the EUs legislative process. The proposals are far-reaching, and the key components include:
- 1. A common methodology for calculating the energy performance of buildings
- Minimum standards for the energy performance of new and existing buildings
- Energy performance certification, and proposals in relation to the display of this and other information
- Regular inspection of boilers and air conditioning units
The UK Government is currently in consultation on the ECs proposals.
