October 15, 2001—The FBI has issued an advisory to state and local law enforcement authorities and the public asking them to remain especially alert to any unusual activities around ventilation systems. This is a precautionary measure in keeping with the ongoing heightened awareness for terrorism in the United States.
The FBI advisory specifically noted that while the Bureau possesses no specific threats regarding the release of toxic chemicals into air handling systems, building owners and managers should be well aware of the potential for contamination of such systems.
