May 12, 2003—Facility Engineering Associates, P.C. (FEA) has been awarded a contract by L’Enfant Plaza Properties, Inc. to perform a building faade evaluation and certification of the rigging systems for multiple buildings at L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. L’Enfant Plaza is a well-known office complex containing four large office buildings and a retail center.
FEA has performed numerous evaluation, design, and construction administration projects at the site since being originally retained in 1996. These services will be performed on the North and East Buildings of the plaza by the Greenville, SC and Washington, DC offices of FEA. The North Building is a 12-story office building, while the 14-story East Building contains the Loews—L’Enfant Plaza Hotel and additional office space.
Elements of the contract include the load testing and certification of components used for rigging and cleaning the building. A total of 64 load tests of roof mounted davits, trolley attachments, and life safety anchors will be required to certify the system for use in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and American National Standards Institute requirements. In addition, a faade evaluation will be performed to assist in preparation of plans and specifications for the repairs to concrete balconies and facades of both buildings.
