In order to help alleviate the continuing energy crisis in California, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a certificate on April 6, 2001, to Kern River Transmission Company authorizing the construction of facilities needed to deliver 135,000 Mcf per day of natural gas to California this summer. The natural gas will help generate electricity and meet other consumer needs. FERC staff coordinated regulatory efforts with federal and state agencies in order to complete the authorization in just three weeks.
The proposal by Kern River Transmission Company includes three new compressor stations, as well as upgraded facilities at three existing compressor stations and an existing meter station. These facilities will bring gas from Wyoming to California.
