Fifteen organizations join to boost carpet recycling in the UK

June 4, 2008—Recyclers of carpets, retailers of carpets and makers of carpets from all over the United Kingdom have joined to increase the amount of carpeting that is recycled.

The players in the carpet industry have started an alliance known as Carpet Recycling UK. The alliance consists of fifteen founding members, including Greenback Recycling, the pioneer carpet recycler in the United Kingdom.

The organization has said that there was huge demand for carpet recycling services. Its priorities include raising government awareness of the sector so as to attract more support from agencies and regulators involved in recycling, and making information available to citizens.

In the first six months of its existence one of the objectives of the alliance will be to survey the market for under-developed fibers. The second objective will be to institute a feasibility study on reduction of size for certain types of carpets.

Carpet Recycling UK also intends to launch a certification system for recyclers of carpets with an aim of giving the stakeholders more credibility and also offering precise information for anyone intending to use their services. For more information, see the Web site.
