May 11, 2007—AISO.net, reportedly California’s first and only solar-powered hosting company, recently announced that it has become the first public data center member of the US Green Building Council. The company says its next goal is to obtain LEED certification from the Council for the existing AISO.net building.
AISO.net, which has offered Web hosting since 1997, has already adopted an array of environmental sustainability goals. The company is 100 percent solar powered, and was featured in Inc. Magazine‘s list of “Top 50 Green Companies.”
In order to obtain the LEED for Existing Buildings certification, the data center will receive additional green enhancements, such as installing new carpeting made from recycled content, replacing all compact fluorescent light bulbs with LED lighting, and installing an underground grey water tank that will water the outdoor landscaping.
The USGBC is a national coalition of leaders from across the building industry, working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. The USGBC’s green building rating system, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. To achieve LEED certification, a building must use environmentally friendly products in construction and renovation.
