October 19, 2007—Flame Seal and Songgo-Ritty Flooring Company of Canada (a division of Songgo-Ritty Lumber Products of Canada, Inc.) have been working together for over a year developing the next generation of flooring products.
These joint efforts have resulted in the development of formulations and treatment processes for Class A rated hardwood flooring with UV coatings, and firewall rated plywood. When the two are combined, using this new plywood as the sub-floor, a 30-minute firewall rating has been achieved for the entire floor system, with an upper limit of 45 minutes, the companies say.
Songgo-Ritty will incorporate this system in its Engineered Flooring Division. The performance of these products is such that a treated section of plywood only -inch thick has survived for 1 1/2 hours in “burn through” firewall testing at Flame Seal’s fire testing laboratory.
