Avert, Inc., has been named one of the 200 Best Small Companies in America by Forbes magazine in its 22nd annual listing, which identifies small businesses that excel in value and growth. Avert’s value strengthened over the last 12 months with a 17% return on equity, topping the company’s average five-year return on equity by 5%. The company has also demonstrated strong growth rates with a five-year average sales growth of 20% and earnings-per-share growth of 14%. Avert is devoted exclusively to the provision of employment screening services for a global marketplace of human resource professionals. The only background-checking firm to make the list, Avert was ranked in the top half of the list. The company was one of six in Colorado to be recognized.
Companies eligible for the Forbes listing were those with sales between $5 million and $350 million, thus qualifying them as small businesses. These companies also had to have five-year sales and earnings-per-share growth rates of at least 5%, with net income exceeding $1 million during the past four quarters. Forbes then eliminated those with bad debt, lawsuits, and slow receivables.
