Generac’s new Gemini Twin Pack genset produces 1 megawatt of standby power

October 17, 2007—Generac Power Systems has announced the release of its new and more powerful Gemini Twin Pack genset with a rating of 1000 kilowatts (1 megawatt).

Using Generac’s onboard paralleling technology, Gemini’s power is produced by two 500-kilowatt gensets operating within a single, sound attenuated enclosure. The new model takes the place of the 600 and 750 kW Gemini gensets, which were introduced in 2002. The Gemini Twin Pack genset is well suited to a wide variety of applications, including hospitals, airports, office buildings, manufacturing plants, data centers and retail superstores.

The Gemini platform is powered by a pair of 16 liter Volvo six cylinder in-line Tier II diesel engines (compliant through January 2011), each one powering a 500 kilowatt alternator at 1800 rpm. These powerful and reliable heavy-duty industrial engines are ideal for power generation, says Generac.

The Gemini Twin Pack is designed as a superior alternative to large, single engine generators. Its high output and compact footprint (176 square feet) give Gemini the highest power density (kilowatts per square foot) available for a backup system, according to the company.

As many as seven Gemini units can be combined and paralleled for applications requiring up to 7 megawatts. All Gemini gensets are UL 2200 Listed by Underwriters Laboratory for safety and verification of rated power output.
