October 28, 2002—Georgia-Pacific Corporation’s gypsum business, G-P Gypsum, has just introduced two new interior gypsum panel products that resist the growth of mold and mildew on walls and ceilings. The products, DensArmor Interior Guard and DensArmor Plus Interior Guard, are extensions of G-P Gypsum’s line of DensTechnology, and are the only glass-faced gypsum products used in the construction of interior walls and ceilings of commercial buildings and residences.
DensArmor is an interior product that consists of a noncombustible gypsum core with a coated glass mat on the back and a smooth, heavy-duty paper on the face. The glass mat provides protection from incidental moisture in the stud cavity and resists the growth of mold and mildew. G-P Gypsum reports that DensArmor Plus scored a perfect 10 on the ASTM D 3273 mold and mildew standard. The board includes tapered edges, an enhanced core with reduced organics, and durable, heavy-duty face paper that resists abrasions.
DensArmor Plus is an interior board product with a moisture-resistant, noncombustible gypsum core with coated glass mat facings on both the face and back of the board. The glass mats and enhanced, moisture-resistant core are highly resistant to the growth of mold and mildew, providing protection against problems caused by moisture intrusion.
The core of DensArmor Plus is reinforced with inorganic glass fibers, increasing strength. Combined with the facings made with inorganic glass fibers, the product features greater moisture resistance and dimensional stability than regular wallboard, says the company. It resists warping, rippling, and buckling. DensArmor Plus also provides excellent fire resistance.
Both products are available to contractors through gypsum supply distributors. For more information, visit Georgia-Pacific Gypsum
