September 10, 2008—The Modular Building Institute (MBI) and M Space Holdings announced the placement of an eco-friendly portable for the Waldorf School in Charlottesville, VA. The unit was inspired by the winning entry from MBI’s annual student architecture competition, a project sponsored by MBI’s educational foundation and factory-built by MBI members M Space Holdings and Miller Building.
MBI members Bard Manufacturing and Tell Manufacturing also participated.
Waldorf approached MBI after deciding on a modular classroom to quickly expand space. Upon reviewing the winning student design, Waldorf found it supported the school’s vision for “Setting the Green Standard” through its greenest school campaign. Work started shortly thereafter to customize a similar classroom with features like recycle insulation, an energy-efficient HVAC system and no-VOC paint.
