Green Touchscreen’s “green” kiosk at Grinnell College connects to building automation system

July 13, 2005—The Green Touchscreen kiosk at Iowa-based Grinnell College’s Conrad Environmental Research Area (CERA) focuses on prairie restoration and is integrated with building automation system data showing real-time status and operation of both a cistern system and a geothermal heat pump system. It also provides information about the recycled and rapidly renewable materials used in the center, explains Green Touchscreen.

CERA’s newly completed Environmental Education Center’s interactive and internet-based Green Touchscreen kiosk serves three purposes, according to Grinnell College, rapidly becoming a leader in Iowa’s own green building industry.

First, because it is Web-based, it allows Grinnell College to educate people worldwide about the CERA mission of preservation and restoration of prairies. Second, it enables the building to play an educational role by providing live weather data used by classes to monitor the effects of weather on the prairie over time. Third, Green Touchscreen educates building and Web site visitors about the environmentally friendly aspects of the building itself. Displaying live data from the building automation system, the Green Touchscreen kiosk shows the real-time status and operation of both a cistern system and a geothermal heat pump system.
