August 30, 2004—The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, in conjunction with Air Quality Sciences, is calling upon manufacturers of building products and materials to participate in a one-year study measuring the ability of products to resist mold growth. The objective of the research project is to gain a better understanding of the microbial resistance properties of different materials under adverse conditions. Additionally, results from the study may lead to the development of a credible rating system that will help building professionals find appropriate products corresponding to the specific environmental conditions of their building projects.
“Mold remains a costly challenge for building professionals, owners, and managers,” says Dr. Elliott Horner, Director of Laboratory Services for Air Quality Sciences, Inc. “Establishing a framework of microbial resistance among comparable building materials will help to address this challenge and provide valuable information to manufacturers regarding their products’ performance.”
Participation in the study will be open to all manufacturers of GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified products as well as to manufacturers of interior products or building materials, which have not been evaluated for their chemical emissions performance.
