August 2, 2002—The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has made GREENGUARD Certification a requirement for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification Program for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI).
LEED-CI is a rating system that helps architects, interior designers, and their clients make sustainable choices and build quality indoor environments. To obtain the LEED-CI credits for low-emitting materials, furniture and furnishings must be GREENGUARD Certified or meet GREENGUARD emission levels.
Many interior products and materials release odorous or potentially irritating contaminants into the indoor environment, which can have serious effects on the occupants’ health, productivity, and quality of life. GREENGUARD Certified Products have passed a series of rigorous emissions tests and undergo quarterly monitoring tests to ensure their low-emitting status.
