May 27, 2005—To further its mission to improve indoor air quality, the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) has named Carl E. Smith as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, the organization says.
This is a new position at GEI, an independent, nonprofit organization that establishes and promotes indoor air quality. GEI manages stringent testing for thousands of commercial and consumer products so that they might earn the GREENGUARD seal of approval.

For more than ten years, Smith was employed at Steelcase, Inc., the largest office furniture manufacturer in the world, where he held various senior level positions including Director Corporate Marketing and General Manager.
