December 6, 2004—The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has accredited the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) as an ANSI Standards Developer. As an internationally recognized standards developer, the GEI will submit the GREENGUARD Certification Standards for Low Emitting Products to be approved by a consensus body and documented as American National Standards.
The GEI is qualified to develop standards for all facets of indoor air quality including indoor source emissions, indoor pollutant standards, microbial resistance performance, building construction and operations, as well as standards for source emission for vehicles and aircraft.
“The ANSI process gives GREENGUARD a platform to develop solid consensus-based standards that will assist building and design professionals, facility managers, institutions, and industry in setting expectations for high performance products,” commented John Adams, GEI Managing Director. Adams added that the standards will support existing programs for high performance buildings like the US Green Building Council’s LEED Rating System.
