Hand Sense cream designed to stop biological agents from entering skin

March 3, 2003—Firefighters and emergency response personnel attending the Firehouse World Exposition & Conference in San Diego in February participated in demonstrations of Hand Sense, an Israeli-made protective cream that blocks biological agents from entering the body through the skin. Hand Sense forms a protective non-porous shield for users, and can be worn for hours under latex gloves, protecting the users from hyperhidrosis (excessive perspiration) and allergic reactions to the gloves. A single application provides protection for four hours regardless of washing or scrubbing the skin.

At the University of Wisconsin, where Hand Sense was first tested in the US, doctors and nurses use the cream to protect their skin from harsh antimicrobial soaps and latex gloves. If used under gloves and socks, it also helps to keep users hands and feet dry and warm. Hand Sense claims to reduce perspiration by 75 percent.
