October 25, 2005—The Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) at the University of Calgary is pleased has announced the creation of the Haworth Chair in Integrated Design.
This position is funded by Haworth Inc, under the Project evolve partnership with Direct Energy Business Services. The Haworth Chair will provide a focus on research and teaching in integrated design, bringing together a broad range of fields, scales, technologies, approaches and sectors, says the University. The Chair-Holder will effectively bridge between the academy and industry by disseminating valid, vital and thought-provoking research back into the community, says the University.
EVDS is a non-departmentalized interdisciplinary school that encompasses art and science, and explores the space between the two. The Faculty has a strong reputation in areas related to environmental design, ecologically-sensitive intervention, and sustainability, the University says.
Haworth Inc. is an international leader in sustainable innovative interior solutions, employing over 1,950 Canadians. Launched in April 2005, Project evolve is a long-term partnership between the University of Calgary, Direct Energy Business Services and Haworth, focused on delivering a new generation of sustainability initiatives and sustainable buildings on campus, and creating a living laboratory for students and faculty. The seven-year agreement is forecasted to yield more than $38 million in energy savings and student and research support.
