October 18, 2004—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Haworth, Inc. the first Sustained Achievement Award for exceeding waste reduction goals several years in a row. Haworth received the award at the EPAs WasteWise Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC.
A charter member of the WasteWise program since 1994, Haworth continues to exceed its WasteWise goals, demonstrating a commitment to reducing waste through intensive recycling programs and an efficient production and distribution process. Haworth was one of only two organizations to receive a Sustained Achievement award at the ceremony.
The 19,000 square foot Haworth Recycling Center has been in operation since 1992 and recovers over 30 types of materials from each of their Michigan manufacturing facilities. WasteWise is a free and voluntary waste reduction program launched by the EPA in 1994. The program provides guidance and recognition to more than 1,500 participating organizations that are working to find practical methods to reduce municipal solid waste and improve financial performance.
