Boogie board, a user-friendly adjustable keyboard pad (AKP) developed by Haworth Inc. that adjusts from a single control, is the winner of a 2000 Best of Canada Award. The award competition is organized by Canadian Interiors, Canada’s magazine of interior architecture and design. The competition is held annually and is designed to increase national and international recognition of the talent and outstanding achievements of Canadian designers. Products that were introduced between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 1999 were eligible. A panel of six judges recognized a total of eleven projects for excellence in innovation and design, including Haworth’s Boogie board.
Conceived by Haworth designer Dan West and realized by Davide Tonizzo of Design D, Boogie board unites a softly organic shape with smooth transition capabilities to encourage users to frequently change their keyboarding positions. It combines easy operation and fluid ergonomic design to help reduce strain on muscles and joints. The board’s spring-assisted height and tilt adjustments activate from an intuitive, front-mounted control. Once adjusted, a cable-controlled brake mechanism creates a positive lock that eliminates accidental position changes.
Boogie board is part of Haworth’s Jump Stuff family of desktop tools, designed in collaboration with BMW’s Designworks/USA subsidiary. The system allows users to personalize their productivity, organize their workflow and facilitate the use of technology.
